Digitize your negatives & slides
Film scanning near me
419 labs and scanning services across 42 states that turn developed film, negatives and slides into digital files. The scanner sets the look of your photos more than anything else the lab does — here is who scans what, and what each resolution tier really gets you.
Scanning and developing are two different jobs. Most labs here develop your film and scan it in one order. A handful are pure scanning services that digitize film you have already developed — plus old negatives and slides — but do not process undeveloped rolls. Every card below is labelled for what it actually is.

Film scanning: common questions
- How much does film scanning cost?
- Scanning is usually priced as a tier bundled with developing: proof scans (about 1.5–2MP) are cheapest, standard scans run around 6 megapixels, and high-resolution scans of 20–24MP cost the most. Develop-and-scan for a roll of 35mm typically runs $15–24; a dedicated drum scan of a single frame can be $25–50. Scanning film you have already developed is priced per roll or per frame.
- What resolution scan do I actually need?
- For sharing online and small prints, a standard 6MP scan is plenty. For big enlargements, heavy editing or archiving, pay for the large 20–24MP tier. A proof scan is only for choosing which frames to re-scan later. The scanner matters as much as the number: a Frontier gives smoother, punchier files, a Noritsu gives sharper, flatter files with more editing headroom, and a flatbed or Flextight is used for medium and large format.
- Can a lab scan my film without developing it?
- Yes. Scanning and developing are separate steps, and 29 of the 419 services listed here are dedicated scanning shops that digitise already-developed film, negatives and slides without processing. If your film is already developed — or you have a shoebox of old negatives and slides — a scanning service turns them into digital files. A scan shop does not develop undeveloped rolls, so check what you have before you go.
- Noritsu, Frontier or flatbed — which scanner is best?
- None is "best" outright; they have different looks. Fujifilm Frontier files come back smoother, warmer and more contrasty straight out of the lab. Noritsu files are sharper and flatter, leaving more room to edit. Flatbeds and Hasselblad Flextight scanners handle medium and large format and pull the most detail for big prints. If the exact look matters to you, ask which scanner the lab runs.
